How To Keep St Louis Woodpeckers Away From House

St Louis woodpeckers are small and very beautiful birds. They are quite a sight since they have different bright colours on them. They really bring out the sparkle in nature wherever they are. However, small and cute as they may be, these birds can be quite a nuisance when left to do whatever they like. They make quite a noise when they peck into wood closeby. They can be attracted to your house if it is has wood siding and thus, as they peck away, give you a hell of a bad time with the noise. When they start pecking your house, they also attract other creatures like birds and squirrels to come and build their homes there too. As each tries to get a spot, your home is subjected to more and more damage. Therefore, it is undesirable to have a woodpecker anywhere close to your house, and here are a few methods you can employ to ensure this does not happen.

First and foremost, it is best that you know and then get rid of what attracts the birds to your house in the first place. These birds are attracted to places with insects like bugs which are food to them. That may be what is attracting them to your house, and therefore, you should spray your house and make sure that no such insects exist there. That way, the St Louis woodpecker will not have a reason to come to your house. Also, a woodpecker cannot resist trying to complete a hole it has already started, so incase you notice one, then you should cover it very fast and thus be rid of the bird for some time. Limbs of dead trees also host insects and if you have one close to your house, then you should shift it to a place where the woodpecker can peck away in peace. Use of decoys also goes a long way in keeping St Louis woodpeckers away. Decoys such as scare crows and predator carvings, such as owls also scare the birds. They are not very effective in the long run. Shifting them periodically however increases their effectiveness significantly.

Moving objects, such as the unforeseeable movements made by a windsock or just any light material on a pole makes the St Louis birds uncomfortable and gets rid of them eventually. Feeding them could also help. You could feed them at a specific spot the first day, then gradually move the food away from the house as time goes. Noise also goes a long way, if a garden chime does not work, then you could purchase a radio, or a source of ultrasonic sounds which exist in the market and are very effective in displeasing the birds.
